Nepals Prime Minister to Attend BIMSTEC Summit in Thailand

Nepal's Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli, is scheduled to visit Bangkok to participate in the sixth BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Summit. The Thai capital will host the conference from March 20 to 22, 2025, bringing together leaders from member countries to discuss regional cooperation and development initiatives.​

The Nepalese cabinet approved Prime Minister Oli's attendance during a meeting on March 24, 2025. He is set to depart for Thailand on March 19, 2025, to engage in discussions aimed at enhancing collaboration among BIMSTEC nations. The summit will cover various sectors, including trade, investment, energy, and transportation, reflecting the organization's commitment to fostering economic growth and integration in the Bay of Bengal region.​

BIMSTEC comprises seven member countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Established in 1997, the organization serves as a platform for intra-regional cooperation between South and Southeast Asian countries. The upcoming summit in Bangkok is anticipated to strengthen ties among member states and promote collaborative efforts to address common challenges and opportunities within the region
